Yesterday there was a flash flood in the area were my parents live. Where my job is, which is only 15 miles away, had blue skies and puffy white clouds so I had no idea. My mom called to say it was raining. “Alrighty….” I left work around 4pm heading to an appt thinking I would be early. The highway I took had other plans. I saw so many emergency vehicles going past my car (which was essentially parked on a major highway) during my 2.75hrs duration on the highway that I thought there was a major accident. Everyone has in them a Light. Everyone has something in them that they are really great at. Sometimes we forget this due to being in the wrong situation, relationships, job, around the wrong people, misguided loyalty. Not only do we hear but we absorb the negative feedback, digs, backhanded compliments, etc to the point of it being ingrained in our psyche but then we begin to use our own internal dialogue to diminish our light.
Years ago Oprah, my shero, in one of her Remembering Your Spirit segments brought up the suggestion of keeping a gratitude journal. Each day, at whatever time was good for you, you were to write at least five things for which you were grateful. To get started you may have wanted to write you were grateful for waking up then move on to other things. It could be gratitude for anything, daffodils, vision, good workout, maybe a not so good workout but at least you showed up that day. Continue reading
